What do children learn in Islamic studies?

Reading the Quran is one part of a child's Islamic education. The rest is learning how to live it day by day: how to make wudu, how to pray, which words to say when waking, eating or leaving the house, and how to treat parents, siblings and friends.

This course teaches those basics in simple language a child can follow, and it pairs well with Noorani Qaida or Quran reading with Tajweed.

What topics are covered?

The teacher chooses topics to suit your child's age and what the family already does at home. They include:

  • Wudu, step by step, and the daily routine of salah
  • Masnoon duas for everyday moments, learned with their meaning in English or Urdu
  • Islamic manners, such as greeting, sharing, honesty and respect for parents
  • Stories of the Prophets, told simply, with the lesson each one carries

We describe what is taught and leave questions of religious rulings to your family and your own scholars.

How is a class taught?

Classes are live and one to one on Zoom, 30 minutes each. Ustadha Ayesha Azmat uses on-screen slides and a digital pen, so a child can see the steps of wudu or the words of a dua as they are taught. She speaks English, Urdu and Arabic, which helps children who hear different languages at home.

Duas are learned a short phrase at a time and repeated until they feel natural. Positive reinforcement and reward stickers keep children encouraged, and you can read more on the methodology page.

Yes. Daily duas, manners and stories of the Prophets are woven into the teaching, and many families take Islamic studies alongside reading or hifz. Within the same plan, the teacher can divide the week between Quran reading and Islamic studies. The 3 days a week plan at $65 per month is a common choice for this mix. See all options on the pricing page.

Classes are booked around your time zone, and you can ask about weekend slots.

What should I expect from the course?

Children learn at different speeds. How quickly a dua or a salah routine settles depends on age, regular classes and whether the family practices together at home. After the free trial class, the teacher will describe a realistic pace for your child, and you can decide what suits your family.

Questions about kids quran teacher in United States

What age is this course for?

It suits children from about four years old up to the early teens. The teacher adjusts the language and the depth of each topic. A young child learns a short dua and its simple meaning, while an older child can learn the steps of salah in more detail. We suggest a parent stays nearby for the youngest children.

Which duas will my child learn?

The focus is on masnoon duas used in daily life, such as those for waking and sleeping, eating, entering the home and leaving it. The order is chosen with you, depending on what your family already practices at home. We describe what is taught and do not give religious rulings, so questions of that kind are for your own scholars.

Can the teacher help my child learn to pray?

Yes. The teacher goes through wudu and the movements and words of salah in small steps, using slides so the child can follow along. Practice at home with a parent makes a big difference. If your family follows a particular way of praying, tell the teacher at the start so she can respect it.

Is this separate from Quran reading classes?

It can be taken on its own or together with reading or hifz. Many families set aside part of the week for each. In the trial class, tell the teacher what you are hoping for, and she will suggest how to balance the lessons for your child's age and level.

How do I book a trial class?

Use the short form on the trial page or message us on WhatsApp. Your WhatsApp number is required so that we can reply. A teacher is matched to your child, subject to availability, and the trial class is free. You can also ask about class times for your time zone and about weekend slots when you write to us.
