What is Noorani Qaida and why do children start with it?

Noorani Qaida is the traditional first book for learning to read the Quran. It teaches a child to recognize each Arabic letter, say it from the correct place in the mouth and throat, and then join letters and sounds into words.

For a child who does not speak Arabic at home, this is the step that makes everything after it easier. A child who reads the letters and short sounds correctly can move on to the Quran with confidence, instead of copying sounds they do not yet understand.

What does my child learn in the course?

We follow the usual order of the Qaida and move at your child's pace. The main topics are:

  • Single letters and their makharij, the exact points where each sound is made
  • Joined letters and how their shapes change within a word
  • Harakat: fathah, kasrah and dammah
  • Tanween and the sounds it adds
  • Sukoon and shaddah
  • Madd, the rules for lengthening a sound

Each topic is practiced until the child can read it clearly before the next one begins. Nothing is rushed past a sound that is still unsteady.

How is a 30-minute Noorani Qaida class run?

Classes are live and one to one on Zoom. Ustadha Ayesha Azmat uses a digital pen and on-screen slides, so your child can see each letter written and marked as it is taught. She speaks English, Urdu and Arabic, so she can explain a sound in the language your child understands most easily.

A class usually revisits the last lesson, teaches one new piece and finishes with reading practice. Correction is gentle, and effort is encouraged with positive reinforcement and reward stickers. You can read more about the approach on our methodology page.

Many families start their children between the ages of four and seven, but older children and teenagers who never learned to read the Quran are welcome too. For young children we suggest a parent stays nearby during class, and parents are always welcome to sit in.

Two classes a week at $45 per month is a common starting point for a beginner, and three classes a week at $65 per month suits children who practice most days. You can see every option on the pricing page. Classes are booked around your time zone, and you can ask about weekend slots.

What should I expect from the course?

Progress varies from child to child. It depends on age, on regular attendance and, most of all, on a few minutes of practice at home between classes. We do not promise a finish date. After the trial class, the teacher will describe a realistic pace for your child, and you can decide whether to continue. To begin, request the free 3-day trial.

Questions about kids quran teacher in United States

What age can my child start Noorani Qaida?

Most children begin from around four years old, once they can sit and follow a short lesson with a parent nearby. Older children, teenagers and even adults can also start from the first page. The teacher will adjust the pace and the way she explains each sound to suit your child's age and attention.

Does my child need to know Arabic already?

No. The course assumes your child knows no Arabic at all. We start from the shape and sound of the first letter. The teacher speaks English, Urdu and Arabic, so she can explain in the language your child follows most easily and answer your own questions as a parent too.

How long does it take to finish the Qaida?

It depends on your child's age, how many classes a week they take and how much they practice at home. We do not give a fixed number of weeks or months. After the trial class the teacher will tell you what pace looks realistic, and she will go over it with you as your child moves forward.

Do I need to stay with my child during class?

Classes are private and one to one. For young children we suggest a parent stays close, both for comfort and to help with practice afterward. Parents are welcome to sit nearby at any age. You are also free to ask the academy how classes are run and who the teacher is before you enroll.

Can we try a class before paying?

Yes. The trial class is free. Send the short request form or message us on WhatsApp, and a teacher will be matched to your child, subject to availability. The form asks for your WhatsApp number so we can reply to you there and agree a time that suits your time zone.
